Here are the top five stories today in Concord:

  1. The harvest moon is a favorite on the lunar calendar because the best times to view it are so reliable. It doesn't always rise in September, as it will this year. The harvest moon, a moniker assigned because it coincides with the fall harvest across North America, is the one that occurs closest to the autumnal equinox, which this year is on Thursday, Sept. 22. In Concord, the moonrise is at 7:31 p.m. local time Friday, 7:59 p.m. local time Saturday and 8:25 p.m. local time Sunday. (Concord Patch)
  2. The Bay Area is among the best in water conservation in the state. According to the Water Board, 14 counties reached or exceeded Gov. Gavin Newsom's call for a 15 percent voluntary reduction in July, six of which were in the Bay Area. Sonoma achieved a whopping 33.9 percent reduction! Nice work Nor Cal! (Claycord.com)
  3. There was a lot of commotion in the area of Overlook and Parkside drives in Walnut Creek Friday afternoon. After a pursuit by police, a car veered off the road and crashed through what looks like a fence and some trees. Local photographer Sean McDonough captured pictures for News 24/680. Witnesses said that they believed the driver had stolen the car and then ran from police. The driver was taken to a local hospital in an ambulance. The extent of their injuries is unknown. (News 24/680)
  4. The city of Oakley and the Oakley Police Department are re-announcing the $100,000 reward in regards to the homicide of Alexis Gabe. The reward is open to anybody with information that leads to the whereabouts or remains of Gabe. The family issued a statement on Facebook on Friday that reads, in part, "It's not easy raising a child. It takes years of hard work, pain, lots of tears, and joy. But it's all worth it when you see them grow up to be kind, respectful individuals, and makes you proud. That's why it is so hard to accept that all those years spent taking care of your child is taken away from you in just a blink of an eye. No parent should bury their child." Please call (925) 625-7009 or email AlexisTips@ci.oakley.ca.us with any information. (East County Today)
  5. The Orinda Farmers Market is celebrating its 25 year anniversary. On August 16, The Orinda City Council issued a proclamation celebrating that achievement. Staci De Shasier, Contra Costa County Certified Farmers Markets executive director attended the Zoom meeting to accept the honor. The Contra Costa Certified Farmers' Markets, Inc. is a membership-based non-for-profit organization. Their mission is to support the development of local sustainable farming by cultivating vibrant farmer's markets. (lamorindaweekly.com)
