Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. A year and a half ago, 14-year-old Concord High School student Valentina Langhammer bought a Percocet pill from a classmate. It was a fatal decision. The man who sold her that pill was sentenced to eight years in prison. "If it were up to me, he would be in prison for the rest of his life but eight years, I think, is at least a time for him to reflect and guide his life in another path," said Viviana Arenas, Valentina's mother. 2. Forty-two-year-old Adan Contreras Rivas of Modesto was found guilty on multiple charges for running a construction operation in Contra Costa County without a license. "The defendant defrauded numerous victims out of thousands of dollars. Justice was achieved for those harmed by Rivas in this case, and the jury's conviction will help to protect consumers in the future," prosecutor Natasha Mehta said. (Claycord.com)
  3. BART is looking at possibly increasing fares by 11% over the next two years. The transit company is blaming inflation and an increase in wages for the fare increase. "The BART board is set to consider the potential fare increases during its budgeting process this spring." (Claycord.com)
  4. A victim was allegedly robbed in the Costco parking lot on Monument Boulevard in Concord on Thursday. The perpetrators reportedly used a handgun to intimidate the victim. No injuries were reported. (News 24/680)
  5. Pittsburg High School was evacuated on Thursday after an anonymous caller stated that he had placed a bomb on the campus. Campus officials coordinated an early release for students out of an abundance of caution, as police and trained K9 officers searched the campus. As of 5:00 p.m. authorities stated "after an extensive and exhaustive search by law enforcement and the specially trained K9's, the Pittsburg High School campus was found to be safe, and no explosives were found."
