Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. Pleasant Hill is proposing a transition to district-based elections and, if you're part of the "Pleasant Hill Community," your input is needed. Public hearings will be held at four regularly scheduled City Council meetings. A fifth and final public hearing is scheduled for June 5 to "adopt an ordinance transitioning the City from an at-large to a by-district method of electing members of the City Council, approve the establishment of electoral division map boundaries, and approve the sequence of future Council elections, if applicable." (Claycord.com)
  2. Marathon Petroleum oil refinery in Martinez triggered a false alarm to the Contra Costa County Community Warning System on March 15 at 8:26 p.m. The refinery reported a fire at the facility which could produce toxic smoke that would be hazardous to the community. Upon followup, the Contra Costa Health hazardous materials team determined the facility inadvertently triggered the alarm and no health hazard was imminent. (Claycord.com)
  3. As I hope you've heard already, Singer Songwriter Sundays are coming back to Todos Santos Plaza this spring! "Our songwriter series has been inclusive in nature, having avoided repeat acts through the first two seasons, and gaining draw with each show," volunteer and local musician Brian Vandemark said. "Singer Songwriter Sundays will occur 2-4 p.m. on the first Sundays of April, May and June. The free events are open to the public and family-friendly." (Pioneer Publishers)
  4. Several Contra Costa projects were approved as part of $225 million in funding by Caltrans. Among them is $7.4 million in street lighting and safety improvements in the City of Concord. Enhancements to bike and pedestrian safety also figured prominently in the Contra Costa funding. (News 24/680)
