Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. A preliminary hearing ended Friday for San Ramon Valley teacher and cheer coach Nicholas Moseby, "facing allegations by five different unidentified minors of sexual harassment and molestation during his time as a cheer coach with NorCal Elite in San Ramon and as a science teacher at the San Ramon Valley Unified School District." Moseby's motion to reduce his bail to $250,000 was declined and he was ordered to stand trial at his preliminary hearing. His arraignment will be January 3. (danvillesanramon.com)
  2. 'Tis the season for fun in Concord! The Pioneer knows you want to get out and be merry this season and into the new year, so the folks there have put together a calendar of all of the festivities in the region. (Pioneer Publishers)
  3. The Concord City Council approved the formation of a Homeless Strategic Plan Working Group, which will advise the council and staff on issues affecting the homeless. "Applications for this recruitment are due to the City Clerk by Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, at 5:00 p.m." (Contra Costa News)
  4. The driver in a fatal wrong-way crash on Highway 4 was released to the custody of U.S. marshals on Thursday "because of a federal matter." Michael Armstrong was originally booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of "murder, DUI resulting in injury, driving the wrong way resulting in injury or death and driving with a suspended license for a prior DUI." (Contra Costa Herald)
  5. Officers were called to Williamson Ranch Park in Antioch on Saturday by several 911 callers who reported shots fired. Witnesses reported a suspect running from the scene who was later safely detained in a nearby Walmart, and turned out to be a juvenile with a loaded weapon. Police found a victim at the scene of the shots fired with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim died later at the hospital. Police also received information about a dark-colored sedan that may be involved. The investigation is still active. (News 24/680)
