Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. A Pittsburg man and former San Quentin Prison Death Row guard was sentenced to 20 months behind bars for his role in a smuggling operation at the prison. In September 2022, Keith Christopher pleaded guilty to several crimes related to smuggling cell phones into the prison for the inmates on Death Row. "He admitted in his plea agreement that he accepted payments as bribes in exchange for smuggling at least 25 contraband cell phones into the prison. " (Claycord.com)
  2. At approximately 5:00 p.m. on Saturday three suspects allegedly robbed an Ulta store in San Ramon, with a fourth acting as a getaway driver. Walnut Creek Police pursued the vehicle along I-680. At Boulevard Way and Iris Lane the four bailed from the car. Three of the four suspects were detained at the scene. It's not known what happened to the fourth suspect. (News 24/680)
  3. An Oakley man was shot in the leg in the Raley's parking lot on Saturday afternoon. According to a witness, the assailant fled toward Bridgehead Road. The victim is a former maintenance worker at Carol Lane Apartments, which is near the Raley's Shopping Center. Police have not yet confirmed the identity of the suspect. (Contra Costa News)
  4. The Antioch Police launched a survey for community members. The intent of the survey is to collect information about "local concerns, attitudes, and trust in their police officers." The survey was opened on February 24 and takes about five minutes to complete. (Antioch Herald)
  5. Snow on Mt. Diablo is like a magnet pulling locals and visitors alike to the mountain. Some visitors to the North Gate Road entrance said it took two hours just to get to the entrance and then another hour or two to get to the snow on Saturday! With all of that pent-up stress from the traffic, I bet there were some epic snowball fights up there this weekend! (Claycord.com)
