Student Dead In Shooting Near High School: Concord Police

CONCORD, CA – UPDATED, 6 p.m. Nov. 6: Concord police say a 17-year-old boy targeted in a shooting Monday afternoon near Olympic High School has died. Police say the shooting occurred at 1:32 p.m. at the corner of Salvio and Beach streets after classes at the continuation high school had let out for the day.
"Our investigation reveals ... a passenger in an unknown [four-door] black sedan, exited the suspect vehicle and approached a group of individuals off campus," Concord police said in a statement. "The suspect shot at one of the individuals, as the others ran for safety. The victim ran onto the campus of Olympic High School where he was medically treated by staff, paramedics and police."
The shooting victim, a student at the high school, was then taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he died of his injuries, police said.

"The suspect targeted this victim," Concord police Cpl. Christopher Blakely said.
"He singled-out our victim and shot him multiple times," Blakely added.

The name of the teen won't be released until his family is notified.
No other injuries were reported, according to police.
Police are still investigating a motive in the shooting but it does not appear to be gang-related, according to Blakely.
Concord police are seeking witnesses of the shooting. Those who have not already been contacted by a CPD officer are urged to call police at 925-671-3333.
