- The Concord Police K9 unit made a traffic stop on Saturday night. K9 Officer Hancock helped out his partner by using his well-trained nose. "Methamphetamine, prescription pills and other illegal narcotics were located in the car by the K9." Thanks, again, Officer Hancock, for another great take-down! (Concord Police K9 Association via Facebook)
- St. Mary's College in Moraga was among four Bay Area institutions to receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Education "to increase access to open educational resources." The goal of the initiative is to reduce costs for students accessing these "open education" courses. (Claycord.com)

- Krisha Singhani of San Ramon is the winner of the 2022 Congressional App Challenge for California's 11th Congressional District. Congressman Mark DeSaulnier announced Singhani as the winner, saying "as always, I am very impressed by the ingenuity and skill of all the students across our district who participated in this year's app challenge and congratulate our winner on her remarkable submission." Singhani's app is a wearable device that tracks the user's stress level, anxiety and depression in real time. (Contra Costa News)
- It's orchid season. For one orchid expert from Pleasant Hill who "makes orchids manageable even for someone without a green thumb," and who operates D&D Flowers in Daly City, that means it's a busy time of the year. For the Diablo View Orchid Society, it's time to get ready for the annual orchid show and sale on February 11 in Concord. For us, it means it's time to admire beautiful blooms from Concord to Daly City. (Pioneer Publishers)

Those classes are scheduled on the first Thursday of each month from February until June. (Claycord.com)
- Do you remember, or have you heard the tales of, the Shell Pipeline bombing in 1969? It was the talk of the Moraga Valley for decades. It was likely done by an insider because of the knowledge of the pipeline and the timing of the blast, but nobody knows for sure, to this day. It was a monster blast though, and you can learn more about it and see some pictures from back in the day in this video from the folks at 680/24 Corridor History Group. (News 24/680)
