Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- On July 1 the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office filed nine felony charges against Philip Soliman Moussa, 43, of Concord after he allegedly arranged to meet a minor for "prohibited sex acts." "Police arrested Moussa in Danville on June 29 after he reportedly engaged in online communications with an individual that he thought was a 14-year-old child," according to this article from KRON4. He is currently in custody and his bail has been set at $675,000. (KRON4)
- Get ready to ask for water at your favorite restaurant. Both Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) and East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) have enacted Stage 2 of their Water Shortage Contingency Plan. Beginning July 1, both utilities have added new water use restrictions for residential and commercial users. The good news is that I now have a legitimate reason to drive around in a dirty car. - An Orinda man has been found guilty of multiple felonies in a debit card scheme where he was able to make off with over $1.5 million. Alan Safahi, 61, was found guilty of bank fraud, wire fraud and money laundering by a San Francisco judge at a bench trial that lasted nearly four weeks, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Stephanie M. Hinds and IRS Special Agent in Charge Mark H. Pearson. According to Claycord.com "for the bank fraud count, Safahi faces up to 30 years in prison and a maximum fine of $1 million or twice the gross gain or loss amount. He was also convicted of four counts of wire fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. For the money laundering count, Safahi faces ten years and a possible fine of $250,000." A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled. (Claycord.com)
