Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. Your friends at Patch think you should head out across the East Bay for some Christmas and Hanukkah fun! We've pulled together a list of all of the tree and menorah lightings in the area. Enjoy! (Patch)
  2. San Miguel Villa in Concord agreed to pay $2.3 million in a settlement of claims that it "failed to meet minimum required standards of skilled nursing care in multiple ways," while submitting claims to Medicare and Medi-Cal for the care. "Nursing homes are entrusted to impart competent and quality care to their residents. This case demonstrates that when federal funds are provided but substandard care is delivered, this office is committed to seeking accountability," said United States Attorney Stephanie M. Hinds. (Department of Justice)
  3. Save the date! Saturday is the annual "Stuff The Cruiser" event for kids in need. The police cruiser will be at the Target in Pleasant Hill at 560 Contra Costa Blvd. from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Just pop in the store, grab a gift and stuff it in the car. What could be easier? (Concord Patch)
  4. Listen up, Lafayette. The City Council voted unanimously to pass an ordinance that makes it mandatory for you to lock up your guns. "The council will make it official at the next council meeting with a second reading of the new ordinance, likely as part of the council consent calendar." Might want to amend that Christmas list. (Claycord.com)
  5. Martinez Unified School District teachers are getting a raise, and a nice one. The District Board unanimously agreed that teachers in the district should be given a 9% raise, retroactive to July 1, 2022. "Also included in the agreement, health benefits will remain status quo, beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, there will be no cap on qualifying prior years of credit for experience and placement on the salary schedule." (East County Today)
