Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- A suspicious package was found in the BART parking garage at the Walnut Creek station on Monday morning. Trains were not stopping at the station as of 8:15 and the station was closed "out of an abundance of caution." By 10:30 a.m. the station and parking structure were reopened and trains were making their scheduled stops there. Per Claycord.com: "The Walnut Creek police bomb squad inspected and removed the suspicious item. ... No other information about the investigation was released." (Claycord.com)
- Time to walk and roll to school on October 12! The annual "Walk and Roll to School Day" is not only fun, it's good for you! Get out there on a beautiful fall morning and walk, bike or roll to school and get in that morning exercise. Concord Police supports the event and reminds drivers to take extra caution that morning, watching for pedestrians and those on bikes. (Pioneer Publishers)
- The Antioch City Council is set to receive a ShotSpotter Technology Presentation today at their meeting. According to the staff presentation, 80% of gunshots go unreported in Antioch. The ShotSpotter technology will give police information about these unreported incidents, which may help them keep Antioch safer. "ShotSpotter will detect and accurately locate to within 25 meters of the actual gunshot location 90% of unsuppressed, outdoor gunshots fired inside the contracted coverage area using standard, commercially available rounds greater than .25 caliber," according to the staff report. (East County Today)
- You can dine outside in Danville for at least two more years! The Danville Town Council unanimously approved an extension to the current resolution "expanding outdoor dining options." The extension includes new requirements for businesses seeking approval to extend their permits, including enhanced safety, maintenance and operations standards. The new requirements go into effect on January 3, 2023, and will remain in place until at least January 2, 2025. (danvillesanramon.com/ subscription may be required)
