Concord Home Depot Theft Suspects Crash While Evading Police: PD

UPDATED: The suspects, a man and a woman from Solano County, allegedly tried to run off after she crashed into another car on Diamond Blvd.

CONCORD, CA — UPDATED: An innocent bystander was hospitalized Tuesday after a couple's failed attempt at stealing an expensive power tool from Home Depot in Concord led to a brief vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash, according to a spokesperson for the Concord Police Department.

The attempted theft of an $1,100 power tool from Home Depot, 2090 Meridian Park Blvd., was reported to police at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday, Concord police Cpl. Summer Galer told Patch.

"The male suspect dropped the merchandise, valued at over $1,100, as he was confronted by loss prevention outside the store," Galer said. "The male suspect ran to a waiting vehicle and fled the area."

Home Depot staff phoned Concord police and provided a description of the car the suspects were seen driving, she said.

When the car was spotted on Diamond Boulevard near The Veranda shopping center, an officer turned on his lights and siren but the female driver allegedly failed to yield.

She then crashed into a car at the entrance to Willows Shopping Center, Galer said.

The duo — identified by police as Aleena Moore, 33, of Vallejo and Alejandro Sapp Cazares, 26, of Fairfield — allegedly ran from the crash scene but were soon taken into custody.

"They were booked on burglary, hit and run with injury, and evading," Galer said. "The driver of the citizen vehicle, a 67-year-old Concord resident, was transported to a local hospital by EMS with non-life threatening injuries."

Concord police believe the couple are the suspects in two earlier alleged theft attempts from Home Depot stores in the neighboring cities of Pittsburg and Antioch.
