🌱Tri-Valley Baseball Team @ World Series + Lafayette Art & Wine Fest
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

Hello, neighbors. It's me, Jeri Karges, your host of the Concord Daily — back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening locally. Let's have at it.
First, today's weather:
Very warm with plenty of sun. High: 96 Low: 63.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top four stories today in Concord:
- Did you see the military aircraft flying over the East Bay on Saturday? News 24/680 believes they were F18s. The news source further speculates that they may have been "preparing for a flyover of USS Hornet or, perhaps, providing some aerial escort for VP Kamila Harris, who is in the bay area." Regardless of what they were doing here, it was a pretty spectacular display. (News 24/680)
- Charges have been filed against Shaune Rogers, 34, and David Lopez, 33, both from Richmond, related to the foiled Rolex robbery at Ygnacio Valley Plaza on Thursday. Rogers is being held on $1 million bail with charges ranging from conspiracy to hit and run. Lopez is being held in lieu of $940,000 bail. (News 24/680)
- The Tri-Valley 14-year-old Babe Ruth team is at the World Series! They went undefeated in the state and regional tournaments to earn their place in Williston, N.D. this week at the ultimate competition - the World Series. To follow the team through the World Series, go to www.baberuthworldseries.org and find the Baseball 14-year-old event. (danvillesanramon.com/ subscription may be required)
- At its August 9 meeting, the Concord City Council presented checks for $26,594 each to First Tee - Contra Costa and The Unity Council. All of the funds were raised through the annual Mayor's Cup charitable golf tournament, which was held in May at Diablo Creek Golf Course. Each year, the mayor selects two or three local non-profit organizations as the recipients of the proceeds. Congratulations to First Tee and The Unity Council! (Facebook.com)
Today in Concord:
- It's Martini Monday at Smith's Landing Seafood Grill in Antioch. Signature Cocktails are just $6. (All Day)
- Paint a beautiful feather at Painting with a Twist. Mimosa and Coffee just $1! (1 p.m.)
- Enjoy Live Comedy hosted by Mean Dave every 3rd Monday at Vinnie's Bar in Concord. (7:30 p.m.)
From my notebook:
- The Lafayette Art and Wine Festival is September 17 and 18 this year! Stroll among the booths of art and handmade crafts, enjoying foods from our local restaurants, food vendors and food trucks as well as quality wines and microbrews, pausing to enjoy continuous music from one of the four stages. TICKETS ARE ONLY SOLD AT THE EVENT. DO NOT BUY TICKETS FROM ANYONE ONLINE. Admission to this event is free; drink tickets and glasses are sold on site at the event only. If you are asked to purchase tickets or send money to someone, please report it as fraud.
- Apply to be a member of the Youth Leadership Commission of Walnut Creek. Each summer, the City of Walnut Creek recruits new Youth Leadership Commission members. The purpose of the Youth Leadership Commission (YLC) is to engage the future leaders of Walnut Creek by encouraging youth to take an active leadership role in the community. Commissioners interact with and learn about Walnut Creek local government, complete a policy/service project and provide a youth perspective on issues within the community to the City Council. Applications are currently open through August 19, 2022 at 5pm.
