Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. Police in Pittsburg located an occupied stolen van on Thursday night and attempted to pull the driver over. A chase ended near the Solano Way exit in Concord. "Both suspects were found to be on active probation for auto theft, and both also had no-bail warrants for similar crimes," authorities said. (Claycord.com)
  2. A word of advice: if you have a warrant against you for armed carjacking and are also out on parole, think twice before you ram an officer of the law with your truck and then take off. That's advice one man from Martinez didn't heed. After a brief chase, the suspect exited his vehicle at the Mazda car dealership on Columbus Parkway in Concord and the authorities nabbed him. (Claycord.com)
  3. Moraga-Orinda Fire responded to a home in the 400 block of Tharpe on Thursday afternoon. A portion of the home was in flames when they arrived. The elderly man who lived there was initially reluctant to leave, but neighbors and officials convinced him otherwise. The cause of the fire wasn't released. (News 24/680)
  4. Spent catalyst from the Nov. 24-25 release of heavy metals by Martinez Refining Company may be making its way into the soil. Contra Costa Health Services is warning residents not to eat fruits or vegetables grown in the area. The advice is to grow new plants in pots with new soil not from the area. (Contra Costa News)
  5. Danville Town offices were impacted by electrical outages that hit the area on Friday. A message posted on the Danville Town Facebook page said officials plan to be back in business on Monday. (danvillesanramon.com)

Please be aware that these impacts are only temporary as the dedicated right turn lane onto Monument will be restored once construction activities are completed by the end of June."
