🌱Two Vasco Road Wrecks + Pleasant Hill Arsonist Arrested

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Hi, all. It's Jeri Karges, your host of the Concord Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening in town, including:

  • The City of Walnut Creek is seeking funding applications from local organizations for Community Development Block Grant.
  • Get your 365-day fishing license and fish the Delta all year long!
  • Travis Credit Union (TCU) invites college-bound high school seniors to apply for its 2023 Community Impact Scholarship.

But first, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 82 Low: 54.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. An alleged arsonist has been arrested as a suspect in two different arsons that happened in Pleasant Hill. 36-year-old Aaron Sherman of Martinez is accused of starting two dumpster fires on Golf Club Road on October 3. Investigators obtained CCTV footage of the incidents and identified Sherman, who was known to them from previous contacts, as the suspect. Sherman was arrested and booked on October 7. (Claycord.com)
  2. The City of Walnut Creek is seeking funding applications from local organizations for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds available for fiscal year 2022-2023. The objective for these funds is to "help develop viable urban communities through the provision of decent housing, a suitable living environment, and economic opportunity, principally for low- and moderate-income persons." The application deadline is November 9 at 5:00 p.m. but the City may consider accepting applications after this deadline. Application guidelines and the notice of funding availability are available here on the City's website. (Claycord.com)
  3. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife will begin selling selling 365-day fishing licenses for 2023 on November 15, 2022. That is months before they thought they were going to be able to put them on sale. The licenses will take effect on January 1, 2023, and last the entire year. That means, if you're ready to go hit the Delta for the winter bass fishing season, you can jump on the deal now and be all set in January and for the whole year! (East County Today)
  4. The family has provided an update on the children who were hit while walking home from school in Antioch on September 16. Unfortunately, Gianathon Vincent has been removed from life support and has passed away. The other two children, Cheyenne and Mason Comfort are relying on wheelchairs to get around and are undergoing therapy for their injuries. According to the family, "it's too soon to tell their prognosis or any other damage the accident may have caused," their great aunt, Veronica Finley, explained. A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family to help with expenses. The goal is $70,000 and as of Monday, Oct. 10, the effort is more than halfway to its goal. https://www.gofundme.com/f/family-devastated-by-children-being-hit-by-car (East County Today)
  5. Vasco Road near the county line was blocked to traffic early Tuesday morning when a motorcycle and two or three other cars were involved in a crash. According to East County Today, "it appears a tire or cement block were in the roadway which caused a 2-3 vehicle crash." About 45 minutes later, another two-car crash was reported on the roadway, apparently caused by the same debris in the road. (East County Today)
