- According to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office, Vice Mayor Laura Hoffmeister is facing two misdemeanors and two enhancements for her May DUI arrest in Clayton. - The city of Concord is hosting an Emergency Preparedness Fair on Thursday, Sept. 1 at Todos Santos Plaza. The city invites community members to stop by to pick up useful information and free giveaways from local emergency service organizations. The fair will be held in conjunction with Concord's Music and Market concert series. The fair will feature representatives from the Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ConFire) and HAZMAT team, the American Red Cross, the Concord Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Concord LISTOS program, the Concord Auxiliary Emergency Radio Services (CARES), various support organizations, and several emergency supplies vendors, city officials said. - Clipper BayPass launched this week to some 50,000 college students and affordable housing residents in the Bay Area. This pass is compatible with every public transit agency in the nine-county Bay Area. This pilot will examine whether these passes make public transit easier and more efficient to use. According to Claycord.com, "A second phase planned for early 2023 would make BayPass available to employees at up to 10 businesses, nonprofits and other employers across the region, focusing on areas with multiple participating transit systems." - The Concord Blue Devils went undefeated this season when it clinched the title of World Champion at the Drum Corps International World Championship. The Blue Devils corps is comprised of 164 members, only 21 of whom were part of the corps in 2019 when it last competed! The corps took a two-year hiatus due to COVID and came back with a vengeance! According to The Pioneer, "at the three-day World Championships, the Blue Devils not only won the team title but also earned caption awards for Best Visual Performance, Best General Effect and Best Brass Performance (BD's 25th time taking that award)." Way to go Blue Devils! (Pioneer Publishers)
