🌱Vice Mayor Hoffmeister Issues Statement + BBQ Mishap in Oakley

Here are the top five stories today in Concord:

  1. Concord Vice Mayor Laura Hoffmeister was arrested May 25 by Clayton Police on suspicion of driving under the influence. She issued a statement on Saturday in which she said she took full responsibility for her actions and she apologized to the people of Concord and Clayton. "In time, I hope you can forgive me," she concluded. (Claycord.com)
  2. Shots were fired outside of a bar in the area of Hartz Avenue and Diablo Blvd in Danville Saturday night and a 20 year old suspect has been take into custody. According to News 24/680, "Danville Police Chief Allan Shields wrote that Jacob Filipo of Concord allegedly fired a gun into the ground and across the street from 340 Hartz Avenue, in the direction of parked vehicles and closed businesses, after a fight had taken place." Filipo faces multiple charges in the incident. (News 24/680)
  3. Usually the fireworks come after the BBQ, but for this homeowner in Oakley, the order was switched. His BBQ grill blew up, starting a fire that impacted two homes. The fire was reported in the 4800 block of Claret Ct. at about 7 p.m. and by 7:41 p.m. it had been knocked down. (East County Today)
  4. Wondering what's happening around Orinda? Well, the Miramonte Boys Varsity Tennis team won a big tournament. A free "Opera in the Park" concert is coming on June 16 and The Rotary Club of Orinda will host OUSD Superintendent Aida Glimme on Wednesday, June 15.   • Eats and Beats Food Trucks are at Giacomelli Park in Pittsburg. Get great eats, beer and wine and listen to the tunes. (5 p.m.)
  • Tuesday is Family Fun Night at the Solano Drive-in in Concord. Adults $5.75, $2 kids 5-11. Most screens are double features - two movies for one price. (5:30 p.m.)
