Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- Want to step out this weekend, but you're not sure where to go? Might I suggest Walnut Creek? This article has some great stuff going on there, including a few things that might not have crossed your radar, like the Chris Ahlman's New Album Release Party or a blind tasting at Vinous Reverie. Check it out! (NewsBreak Original)
- State Sen. Steve Glazer will be in Lamorinda Wednesday to host a Town Hall meeting at the Orinda Library. While Glazer is from Orinda, he represents many East Bay cities, including Concord. The event will be in person, starting at 6:00 p.m. (Patch)
- It just looks like a dirt lot right now, but Meta Housing Corporation broke ground on the old Blockbuster property earlier this month and is working on turning it into Blue Oak Square Apartments. This is welcome progress in a project that's been underway for nearly a decade. "When completed, it will provide 181 units of affordable housing for individuals and families." (Claycord.com)
- Freeze warnings continue to be in effect throughout the region through midday today. This should be the end of the "snow season" in the Bay Area, at least for the time being. So bundle up and grab your cameras to get a snap of the pretty white blanket while it lasts! (Claycord.com)
- Cal High in San Ramon went on lockdown on Wednesday after a threat of violence was called in at the school. "San Ramon Police Department officers and drones searched the campus and found nothing suspicious," according to San Ramon PD. After-school activities went on as scheduled. (KRON4)
Today in Concord:
- Paint a Twilight Path at Painting with a Twist in Pleasant Hill. (6:30 PM)
- T-Murph will make you laugh at Tommy T's in Pleasanton. (7:30 PM)
- The Velvet Hammer Band is playing for Friday Night Live at Smith's Landing Seafood Grill in Antioch. (8:00 PM)
From my notebook:
- It's time for the 2023 Congressional Art Competition! "High school artists living in California's 10th Congressional District may begin submitting original artwork to Congressman DeSaulnier's office virtually from now through Monday, April 17th. The winning piece will be selected by a panel of local judges and announced at a special reception following the submission deadline." (Claycord.com)
- Have you checked out Studio 55 in Martinez? It's an artist's paradise with classes and workshops as well as spaces for artists to be artists. "I no longer have to adapt my living space to work on a project and then convert it back to eat dinner," says resident artist Jim Jordan. "Most importantly, there are a group of serious artists with whom to share the joy." What a great community resource! (Pioneer Publishers)
- "Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE) is hosting its annual countywide Spring Job Fair on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Alhambra High School in Martinez from 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m." (Contra Costa News)
