🌱WC Rolex Thief Nabbed +Dublin Deputy Booked On Suspicion Of Homicide

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, everybody. It's me, Jeri Karges, your host of the Concord Daily — here to tell you everything you need to know about what's happening in town these days. Let's do it.

First, today's weather:

Hot with sizzling sunshine. High: 98 Low: 63.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top four stories in Concord today:

  1. Well, it's official. The Walnut Creek City Council on Tuesday unanimously endorsed Measure O, a November ballot measure seeking a 10-year, half-cent sales tax increase to fund "current and future quality of life needs." It's not a surprise, since they unanimously approved putting Measure O on the Nov. 8 ballot back on July 19. Now, it's up to the citizens of Walnut Creek to decide if the benefit is worth the cost. 2. Walnut Creek Police continue to follow up on leads in the spate of Rolex street robberies that we've seen over the past months. And they just nabbed another one! Walnut Creek Police arrested a 40-year-old Kalelle Lamar Dawson of Pinole "and the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office has charged him with possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with a June 2 robbery of a Rolex watch at a gas station on Mt. Diablo Blvd." If you have any information, please call the WCPD anonymous tip line at 925-943-5865. (Claycord.com)
  3. The Contra Costa District Attorney's office has concluded that there is no evidence of criminal offense in the death of 30-year-old Angelo Voithugo Quinto in December of 2020. On September 2, the D.A.'s Office released a 39-page Law Enforcement Involved Fatal Incident (LEIFI) report on the incident. According to the Contra Costa Herald, "part of the LEIFI report contains a legal analysis of the evidence in the death of Quinto. That analysis determined the Antioch Police officers engaged with Quinto in a manner that was lawful and objectively reasonable under the circumstances. Moreover, the report notes that the officers utilized reasonable force during their contact with Quinto." The Contra Costa District Attorney's Office will take no further action in this case. (Contra Costa Herald)
  4. More details are emerging in the case of a Dublin Sheriff's deputy who killed a married couple in the Dublin hills on Tuesday. He then turned himself in later on Wednesday. Devin Williams Jr. was apprehended off I-5 near Coalinga after engaging in a 46-minute phone call with Dublin Police Chief Garrett Holmes. Chief Holmes was able to engage the suspect and de-escalate the situation until Williams was willing to pull over and surrender. Police have determined that Williams had some sort of relationship with the people that were killed. "He specifically went to that house and had a relationship with people at that house," Sheriff's Office Lt. Ray Kelly said. Devin Williams Jr. was booked into the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on suspicion of double homicide and potential special circumstances that could make the case death-penalty eligible.
