🌱Weekend Fun Around Concord + CCTV Presents Veteran Submariners

Here are the top five stories in Concord today:

  1. From Alameda to Walnut Creek, Patch has you covered for the happenings this weekend! Ryan Hamilton will be at Lesher Center for the Arts. Don't forget the Alameda County Fair! And if you want to make a day trip or weekend of it, how about a Napa Valley Beer Battle & BBQ in St. Helena! (Patch)
  2. To celebrate its 85th birthday Krispy Kreme Donuts is giving away special birthday cards to 8,500 guests! In Contra Costa County, locals can go to the Krispy Kreme location at 1991 Diamond Blvd. in Concord or 2530 Sand Creek Road in Brentwood from July 11-14 for a chance to be randomly selected. What's more, on Friday, July 15, anyone will be able to buy an Original Glazed dozen for 85 cents with the purchase of a regularly priced dozen. (Concord Patch)
  3. On Monday, July 11 through Tuesday, August 2, Contra Costa Public Works will be applying a chip seal. Roads in Pittsburg, Pacheco and unincorporated Orinda will be impacted. Expect delays Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Claycord.com)
  4. The Veterans' Voices program that is broadcasted live on Contra Costa Television this month will host a panel of veteran submariners. The discussion will be around the changes in experiences of the submariners through the generations. 20-year veteran submariner Tim Carlisle will be on hand along with several other guests. You can watch the live panel on Monday Jul 11 on CCTV starting at 7 p.m. It can also be seen live online at facebook.com/veteransvoices1. (News 24/680)
  5. ConFire has released data on their calls for the July 4th holiday. For the four-hour period from 9 p.m., July 4, to 1 a.m., July 5, the District dispatched crews to 38 fire incidents. While this is up 300% from Mondays in June, it is down 17% over last year's holiday period. Antioch led the way with 25 calls. Pittsburg was second with 9 and our friends in Clayton and Pacheco get the award for least number of calls with zero each. (East County Today)

  • The Jazz Festival will heat up Concord (or cool it down, depending on your preferred style) August 3-7. Check out who's playing and where at this Visit Concord link!
  • Headed to Sausalito for some weekend fun between 10 p.m., Friday, July 8, and 7 a.m., Monday, July 11? Give yourself plenty of time. A full two lanes of a four-lane stretch on northbound Highway 101 will be closed for that entire time! Caltrans says drivers should be prepared for delays of up to an hour.
