Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. Looks like we can expect rainy, wet, dreary weather for the foreseeable future, Concord. Weather.com doesn't show any letup over the next seven days, at least. Get out those Scrabble games. You're going to need them. (Claycord.com)
  2. Eastbound Ygnacio Valley Road remained closed on Tuesday due to downed power lines. Drivers were advised to use Treat Boulevard as a detour, which, during evening commute, was probably a nightmare. (Claycord.com)
  3. The Golden Gate Division of the California Highway Patrol has taken over as lead investigator into the death of Damond Lazenby Jr., who was found deceased along Highway 4 on January 7. The teen was first reported missing on January 1. "Family and law enforcement had searched the area numerous times over multiple occasions before the heartbreaking discovery [of Lazenby's body] down an embankment along Highway 4 east of the Port Chicago Highway overpass." (Pioneer Publishers)
  4. Most East Bay Regional Parks remain closed, due to damage from the recent storms. Officials are warning people not to go around signs to gain entry into the closed parks. They point to hazardous flooding conditions and the fact that emergency vehicles may not be able to get to them easily, due to deteriorated road conditions. Said East Bay Regional Park District Fire Chief Aileen Theile, "Rescues in closed parks can also put first responders at risk. Help keep yourself and first responders safe by staying out of closed parks. It may not seem unsafe, but the dangers and the potential for injury or loss of life are real." (Contra Costa News)
  5. Representative Mark DeSaulnier, who represents most of Contra Costa County in the U.S. Congress, was appointed to the House ethics committee. "These [newly appointed] Members have each shown a steadfast commitment to good governance and they exemplify our Democratic values of integrity, transparency and accountability," said U.S. House of Representatives' Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries in a statement. (Contra Costa Herald)

Today in Concord:

  • The Greenery at Diablo Hills Golf Course hosts "another fun night of laughs hosted by Pat McCoy and featuring the comedy of Dave Bressoud along with headliner Maureen Langan." (7:30 PM)

From my notebook:

  • "Contra Costa Health Services is seeking volunteers to help identify people experiencing unsheltered homelessness on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 for the 2023 homeless Point in Time Count." (City of Concord, California via Facebook)
  • "Join us at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center for Maker Monday! We'll have a Maker Cart in the Children's Area stocked with everything you'll need to make some art and crafts." Event takes place on January 23 and subsequent Mondays.
  • "The local real estate scene is buzzing with activity, and there are a variety of homes to choose from these days. As part of our weekly real estate roundup, we're bringing you some recently listed and interesting houses to hit the market in the Concord area." (Concord Patch)
