🌱Willow Pass Restaurant Fire + Fire Drill at Buchanan Field
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

Good morning, everybody! It's Jeri Karges, your host of the Concord Daily — here to impart everything that's fit to print about what's happening in town. Today you'll learn about:
- All of the NorCal weekend fun!
- A Pittsburg man was charged on suspicion of kidnapping, attempted rape and assault in an attack at the Walnut Creek BART station.
- Ygnacio Valley alums are working toward making the campus a more appealing place to learn.
But first, today's weather:
Clouds breaking and cool. High: 72 Low: 46.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories in Concord today:
- "Patch has rounded up fun, interesting and entertaining events throughout Northern California — from the beaches of Santa Cruz, through the South Bay, East Bay and the Peninsula, to the uppermost points of North Bay and Wine Country. Whether you opt for an activity close to home, a mini day trip or a virtual event, see what's slated this weekend from Saturday, Oct. 22 to Sunday, Oct. 23." (Patch)
- Firefighters responded to a structure fire that broke out about 4:00 a.m. on Friday at 1680 Willow Pass Road in Concord. The old Imperial Seafood Restaurant has been out of business for a long time, but it was near other stores and restaurants in the area. The blaze was brought under control Thursday morning and no other buildings were damaged by the fire. (KRON4)
- Richard Lee McDowell, 35, of Pittsburg, was charged in the case of a woman who was assaulted in the Walnut Creek BART station on October 7. McDowell was charged with three felonies: kidnapping, attempted rape and assault. He was arrested by BART police on October 14 and remains in custody. His bail is set at $1.5 million. (Patch)
- If you see a plane on fire at Buchanan Field in Concord next week, don't panic. The Aircraft Rescue and Firefighter (ARFF) members are holding a drill, from October 25 through 28. Please do not call 911 about the activity. (Claycord.com)
- Ygnacio Valley High School is about to see better days! A group of alums wants to restore the campus to its former glory. They're working together to fundraise and find ways to beautify the campus. Their Ygnacio Valley Beautification Project is enlisting alumni from 1967 through 2001 as part of the effort. There will be three phases, and the first will promote "student safety with the implementation of a safety lane and walking path on the Northside driveway leading into the Ygnacio Valley campus." If interested, contact chairperson Heidi Coffman Shearer by email. (Pioneer Publishers)
