Woman's Burned Body Found At Scene Of Fire On Antioch Trail: Police

Firefighters responded when a resident called to report a small fire on a paved city trail, police said.

ANTIOCH, CA —A woman's body was burned in a fire early Monday on an Antioch trail and her death was being investigated as a homicide, police said.

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District was dispatched around 5:36 a.m. Monday when a resident called and reported there was a small fire on a paved city trail north of Lopez Drive, between Gentrytown Drive and Contra Loma Boulevard, Antioch police Lt. John Fortner said.

Firefighters responded and found a human body on fire. As they worked to extinguish the fire, they requested a response from Antioch police.

Several officers along with Con Fire arson investigators responded.

"Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene, and the remains were determined to be female," Fortner said.

Detectives interviewed witnesses and residents in the area as they worked to identify the victim and any suspects or persons of interest.
