Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- DNA on a bullet casing tied suspects from a shooting at Sunvalley Mall with a fatal shooting of a 1-year-old boy near Oakland. Both shootings happened in 2021. Thanks to forensics and strong police work, Johnny Jackson, 34, of Richmond; Trevor Green, 22, of Richmond; and Ivory Bivins, 24, of Vallejo are now in custody for the killing of the toddler. - Nominations are open for Contra Costa County Youth Hall of Fame Awards. If you know an outstanding youth between the ages of 12 and 18 who deserves a shoutout, now's the time to get their name in the running. - The City of Lafayette has the option to buy the current police station property. The city negotiated the option to buy the property when the current owner, Janet Nation, passed away. "According to a staff report, the city was given notice on Jan. 11 that Nation passed." City staff is recommending that the City Council exercise the option and buy the property. (Claycord.com)
- Pleasant Hill has a vacancy on the City Council due to Council member Ken Carlson's election as Contra Costa County Supervisor. The city has 11 qualified applicants to fill the position. During the City Council meeting on Monday, council members reviewed the list and determined the process for selecting the newest member. (Contra Costa News)
- Nonprofit rating group Charity Navigator awarded White Pony Express, of Pleasant Hill, its highest rating. "Charity Navigator, the largest of its kind in the U.S., is an organization that evaluates the financial health, accountability, and transparency of thousands of nonprofit organizations based in the United States." White Pony Express distributes surplus fresh food from stores and restaurants that would otherwise be thrown out, to those who need it in Contra Costa County. (Contra Costa News)
