Today's riddle: Why did the burglar wear blue gloves? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. County closes Coronado shoreline through North Beach due to pollution (kpbs.org) — Coronado's entire shoreline through North Beach is closed because sewage from the Tijuana River has contaminated the water, and it will stay off-limits until new tests show it's safe. Several nearby beaches, including Silver Strand and Imperial Beach, are also shut, with additional advisories in La Jolla and other spots, so residents should check sdbeachinfo.com or the hotline before heading out.
2. City officials review policy on paying for major town events (thecoronadonews.com) — Coronado's City Council has decided to keep its current system for waiving or charging fees for major local events, after reviewing how much support each receives. The city covered about 93% of event costs in 2025–26, heavily backing favorites like the Fourth of July parade and Holiday Parade while requiring others, including the Arts and Wine Festival, to pay full city fees.
3. Coronado Cross Country shines at CCA Raven Invitational (coronadotimes.com) — Coronado High School's cross country teams turned in a standout performance at the CCA Raven Invitational, with the girls taking second place and many Islanders running personal bests. Local freshmen and sophomores can still join the program, with flexible workouts offered for those wanting to compete, build fitness, or prep for winter and spring sports.
4. Where to Go in California this Fall (traveldreamsmagazine.com) — Coronado Island gets a strong plug as a quieter, warmer early-fall beach escape just across the bay from downtown San Diego, with easy access for local day trips or staycations. The piece highlights Hotel del Coronado, Orange Avenue shopping and dining, and September–October's warm water and thinner crowds alongside other California getaways like Catalina and Lake Tahoe.
