Coronado Summer Enrichment - Register for FUN classes today!

CSF Summer Enrichment offers FUN, innovative & interactive courses June 12-July 2. Courses offered in science, engineering, ceramics & art, music, culinary arts, and more! www.CoronadoEnrichment.org

Looking for engaging classes to keep your children learning without knowing it this summer?  Coronado Schools Foundation (CSF) is launching its second year of Coronado Summer Enrichment with exciting classes offered from Wednesday, June 12th through Tuesday, July 2nd, 8 am to 12 pm, with most classes two hours in length.  “We used a data-driven approach to designing the program this year, gathered from surveys to parents and teachers, as well as listening to students who attended last year,” notes Chris Searles, MD, CSF Board Member and Program Chair.  “With a focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) topics, we have designed an integrated program for those entering kindergarten through high school where children will learn multiple disciplines in one class.  For example, our tennis class has been expanded to ‘Game, Set, Math & Tennis’ and Josh Barbera, Village Elementary Teacher, returns as the instructor and will incorporate math skills into the curriculum this year along with court time.  As a CUSD parent, I am excited to see the variety and depth of classes offered and I’d be surprised if they don’t fill up quickly,” he adds.

Registration is open now through May 20th for this fee-for- service program at www.CoronadoEnrichment.org with complete course descriptions, fees, teachers and times provided.  New this year are courses like Ceramics, taught by CHS Ceramics Teacher Eric Rempe, and Rock Band!, taught by CHS/COSA Music Director Matt Heinecke and John Flood, World Percussionist.  Matt and Tam Hoang are also teaching  different levels of Guitar, John is teaching World Drumming, and ACTing UP with Lindsey Richter (K-5), bring excitement to the program and encourage involvement in the arts.  On a more academic note, there are courses for incoming Kindergarteners, students moving up to 6th or 9th grade, SAT Test Prep, College Essay Writing, Science - CSI Coronado, Engineer your Imagination, and Come on and Get Digital – just to scratch the surface.  “I am so excited to work with such a talented group of credentialed teachers this summer.  We are offering some really exciting classes, such as It’s Your Turn for Dinner, Kiddo;  Slam Dunk Basketball; Rocks, Squids, and Explosions; and Dive into Drawing/Artistry through Authors, all taught by CUSD teachers. I know the kids are going to have an amazing three weeks in the Summer Enrichment Program,” comments Kathy Shady, Village Teacher and Summer Enrichment Principal.

“Our Leadership Enrichment Program for students entering 7th through 10th grades has also been expanded with fun lunch seminars, providing an opportunity for our future leaders to both assist teachers and learn new skills,” says Patty Cowan, CSF CEO, who started the program.  “Thanks to the generosity of our community partners – Boney’s Bayside Market, Mullins Orthodontics, and Rotary Club of Coronado, as well as private donors – we have scholarship funds available for those with economic need.  Applications and details can all be found at www.CoronadoEnrichment.org.”
