Cara & Garland, APLC to Host "Points and Authorities: New 2015 Labor and Employment Laws" Workshop

Free employment law workshop open to the community

Leading employment and business law firm Cara & Garland, APLC will be hosting, “Points and Authorities: New 2015 Labor and Employment Laws,” a complimentary workshop to brief California employers and employees alike on new employment laws slated to take effect in 2015 on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015 at The Bristol Hotel, 1055 First Ave., San Diego, CA 92101. Registration and complimentary hot breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m., and the workshop is scheduled to commence at 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Community members are welcome to attend.

The following new labor and employment laws that will take effect in 2015 will be among the topics of discussion:

  • Implementation of a new law that requires employers to provide mandatory paid sick leave to employees, and which imposes strict notice and recordkeeping requirements;
  • Changes to the Labor Code that require employers to provide additional paid breaks to employees (these are in addition to already existing meal and rest break obligations), and provide for severe penalties if such breaks are not provided;
  • Amendments to the Fair Employment and Housing Act that expand its anti-discrimination and anti-harassment protections to unpaid interns and volunteers, employees who apply for and hold driver’s licenses designated for undocumented persons, and employees who receive public assistance; and
  • Mandatory instruction of prevention of abusive conduct (“anti-bullying”) in the currently mandated AB 1825 harassment prevention training for supervisors.

Attendees will receive a set of comprehensive materials and will be provided with complimentary valet parking. For more information, call Cara & Garland at 858-454-2400.
