Coronado High Grad Named to All-District Women's Soccer First Team

Cassie Callahan, a 2011 Coronado High School graduate and junior at UC San Diego, was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Women's Soccer First Team.

UC San Diego’s Cassie Callahan (Coronado/Coronado HS) was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Women’s Soccer First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), for the NCAA Division II District 8 on Thursday.

The prestigious awards program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Callahan, a junior All-American who was also a Capital One Academic All-District honoree in 2012 before earning Capital One Academic All-America Third Team distinction, now advances to her second straight Academic All-America ballot. Those teams will be announced on Monday, Nov. 25.

As UCSD’s leader in goals (six), assists (three), points (15), shots (30) and shots on goal (13) for a second season in a row, Callahan maintains a 3.87 grade-point average in mathematics. She is one of 11 honorees for District 8, and one of five from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

The Tritons (6-5-5, 5-4-5 CCAA) head into the final weekend of the regular season with their postseason fate in their own hands. Two wins would earn them a 14th consecutive CCAA Championship berth, in Turlock next week, and strengthen their hopes of a ninth straight NCAA Championship appearance.
