Coronado Names New Police Chief
Charles "Chuck" Kaye has been selected as Coronado's new police chief.

CORONADO, CA – Coronado has chosen its new police chief. Charles "Chuck" Kaye, former San Diego assistant police chief, is the city's new police chief.
Kaye, 55, worked for the San Diego Police Department from 1990 to his retirement in 2017. He was appointed San Diego's assistant chief in 2016. In 2017, he was named captain of the San Diego State University Police Department.
Kaye, who has spent his entire career in San Diego County, was chosen from a list of eight top candidates narrowed down from a field of 63 qualified candidates.

"I am very pleased that Chuck Kaye will be our next police chief," City Manager Blair King said. "His extensive law enforcement career with the city of San Diego, matched with his management style made him the top candidate. He understands the different policing style required for Coronado."
After screening the candidates, the eight top candidates were invited to interview before separate interview panels consisting of community members, city staff and peer professionals, according to the city.

Kaye has a bachelor's degree from SDSU and a master's degree in public administration from National University. He is an instructor at the San Diego Regional Police Academy.
Kaye will start work on Oct. 22. His pay is $201,891 a year, according to the city. Interim Police Chief Ed Aceves will continue until Kaye is on the job.
The position opened up after former Coronado Police Chief Jon Froomin announced his retirement following five years in Coronado and a 30-year career with the Foster City Police Department.
