Coronado Swimmers Make their Mark in CIF Finals

Coronado High School swimmers and divers competed Friday and Saturday in the CIF Division II Swimming and Diving championships – the diving finals took place Friday at Mesa College and the swimming finals took place on Saturday afternoon at Del Norte High School.

The results include:

• Sophomore Alex Rodman placed second overall in the girls 500-yard freestyle with a 5:05:70 and seventh overall in the girls 100-yard backstroke (although she had the fourth fastest time in the event with a 58:99).
• CHS girls and boys each placed sixth in the 200-yard medley relay. The girls swam a 2:00:38 and the boys came in at 1:42.80.
• Senior Van Burgess placed 8th overall in the boys 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46:13.
• Sophomore Putnam Browne swam a fast 21:49 in the boys 50-yard freestyle to place fifth overall and earned fourth overall in the boys 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00:60.
• In the boys 100-yard freestyle Burgess placed fourth overall with a 47.44. He will be using his swimming skills this summer as a Coronado Ocean Lifeguard.
• Israel Dedina, a sophomore, earned ninth place overall in the boys 500-yard freestyle with a 4:55.79.
• In the girls 200-yard IM Cathy White, a senior, earned 11th place with a time of 2:23:60.
• Brooke Abrantes, a freshman, finished 12th overall in girls diving.
• John Hill, a junior, came in 12th overall in the boys 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57:49.

Swimmers and divers will hold their end of the season awards banquet Monday night at Coronado Middle School.
