Coronado Swimmers Make their Mark in CIF Finals
Prep swimmers competed this weekend in the Division II Boys and Girls Championships.

Coronado High School swimmers and divers competed Friday and Saturday in the CIF Division II Swimming and Diving championships – the diving finals took place Friday at Mesa College and the swimming finals took place on Saturday afternoon at Del Norte High School.
The results include:
- Sophomore Alex Rodman placed second overall in the girls 500-yard freestyle with a 5:05:70 and seventh overall in the girls 100-yard backstroke (although she had the fourth fastest time in the event with a 58:99).
- CHS girls and boys each placed sixth in the 200-yard medley relay. The girls swam a 2:00:38 and the boys came in at 1:42.80.
- Senior Van Burgess placed 8th overall in the boys 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46:13.
- Sophomore Putnam Browne swam a fast 21:49 in the boys 50-yard freestyle to place fifth overall and earned fourth overall in the boys 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00:60.
- In the boys 100-yard freestyle Burgess placed fourth overall with a 47.44. He will be using his swimming skills this summer as a Coronado Ocean Lifeguard.
- Israel Dedina, a sophomore, earned ninth place overall in the boys 500-yard freestyle with a 4:55.79.
- In the girls 200-yard IM Cathy White, a senior, earned 11th place with a time of 2:23:60.
- Brooke Abrantes, a freshman, finished 12th overall in girls diving.
- John Hill, a junior, came in 12th overall in the boys 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57:49.
Swimmers and divers will hold their end of the season awards banquet Monday night at Coronado Middle School.
