Leader No. 13: Tanya Ibrahim at 17 is Involved in Local Government

At just 17, Tanya Ibrahim is already involved in local government.

The teen serves as Westview High School student representative on the Rancho Peñasquitos Town Council.

She said her biggest accomplishment is her involvement with the school and “how much I help out to make the school better than it already is.”

“I’ve been a part of so many things at Westview, contributing so much to different areas and people in the Westview community,” said Tanya, who also is involved her local church and homeless shelters.

“I’ve grown into a leader and have learned so much through my high school career, because of how much I’ve accomplished with my involvement at Westview.”

Tanya plans to attend a UC school and major in kinesiology with the hopes of pursuing a career in either physical therapy, sports medicine or pharmacy.

Advice for young people:

“I would advise young leaders to be themselves and step out of their comfort zones, doing things others may be afraid to try and do. I’d tell them to be a leader and take initiative with whatever needs to get done and stand up for what they believe is right. They should always be able to speak their mind, but also take in and listen to what others have to say. They need to learn to be a leader and take charge when things may not be right, and know how to delegate the work to everyone.”
