CORONADO, CA – Lifeguards of all ages competed over the weekend in the 2017 California Surf Lifesaving Championship at Silver Strand State Beach in Coronado.
The two-day competition, organized by the California Surf Lifesaving Association, is the largest annual ocean lifeguard competition in California. The event included competitions for junior lifeguards and professional lifeguards from up and down the west coast, as well as Hawaii and Australia.
"Fitness and endurance are required skills for ocean lifeguards," Michael A. Beuerlein, president of the CSLSA, said in a statement. "This is a unique event which showcases — in a competitive environment — the lifesaving techniques used daily by these lifeguards."
