Naval Base Coronado to Conduct Weapons, Flare Training: Advisory

The Navy training exercises will take place on Silver Strand.

CORONADO, CA — Officials at Naval Base Coronado issued a noise and training alert for Thursday.

From 7 a.m. until noon on Sept. 1, the Navy will conduct training exercises involving blank weapons firing and flares near the ocean-side beaches across from Fiddler’s Cove Marina and RV Park on Silver Strand.

Those nearby may hear weapons being fired with blank munitions, and see white, green, red and purple flares and smoke during the training exercises.

"The Navy recognizes the importance of being good neighbors with the local communities and makes every effort to abate noise when possible," base officials said in a Facebook post.

Noise complaints can be submitted online at Cnic.navy.mil. Any other questions can be directed to Naval Base Coronado Public Affairs Office at 619-545-8136.

Base officials said they are "committed to being good neighbors, while balancing the installation's mission."
