REAL-TIME RESULTS: San Diego County's 2016 Primary Election
Patch's live roundup of Tuesday's election results from across San Diego County.

SAN DIEGO, CA: With voter registration across California at an all-time high, millions of people were expected to head to the polls to cast their votes in Tuesday's presidential primary election.
As of the May 23 voter registration deadline, the California Secretary of State reported that nearly 17.92 million Californians were registered to vote, which accounts for 72.29 percent of the state's eligible voting population. What's more, that's the highest ever total statewide voter registration heading into a primary election, according to the state.
Not surprisingly, there are far more registered Democrats than Republicans in the state, with 44.82 percent for the former and 27.29 for the latter.

“In the 45 days leading up to the voter registration deadline, there was a huge surge in voter registration — total statewide voter registration increased by nearly 650,000," Secretary of State Alex Padilla said. "Part of this surge was fueled through social media, as Facebook sent a reminder to all California users to register to vote. It is clear that Californians are engaged and excited about this election. Now the next step is to turn out and vote!”

Here’s a tentative schedule for San Diego County's ballot results on election night and beyond, according to the Registrar of Voters’ Office
- The polls close at 8 p.m. Within minutes, the results should come through for the ballots that were mailed in, submitted at drop-off points before election day or during early voting at the registrar’s office.
- Those numbers will probably account for 25 to 30 percent of the total vote count for the election, up to 350,000 ballots.
- After that, some precinct results may trickle in, but only a very light number.
- Close to 11 p.m. you can expect the bulk of the precinct numbers.
- Then, results should come in periodically as trucks with ballot boxes continue to roll in. All the precinct ballots might not arrive until after 3 a.m.
- After all the precinct ballots are counted on election night, Registrar of Voters’ Michael Vu expects only about 80 percent of the vote. Those tight races might still be up in the air.
