Book and lyrics by Barbara Fried. Music by Norman
Sachs.

 Coronado Playhouse presents the
musical version of the classic romantic fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty, with a
decidedly modern twist, as part of our Summer of Love Series. With hallmarks of
originality, charm and enchantment, Sleeping Beauty or The Famous Rose Taboo was
originally presented Off-Broadway in 1965 at the Astor Place Playhouse. It played
an astonishingly long run for a young audiences musically, transporting a new
generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true. This classic tale of
love is complete with a beautiful princess, a handsome prince, a good fairy
godmother, a singing page, a bumbling fairy godfather, a mistake-prone king and
his wiser queen. And, of course, there is a scary fairy – who sings that it’s
very “unfair-y” that she has never been chosen to be a godmother. Sleeping
Beauty or The Famous Rose Taboo is the ultimate heart-warming tale of love
conquering all. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a
touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike will soar when
Prince Charming magically awakens Princess Beauty from an awful spell, with
true love’s kiss.
