Suspicious Device Prompts Coronado Police to Close Streets, Park
Portions of Orange Avenue and 7th Street, as well as Spreckels Park, were closed as police, fire and a bomb squad investigated the item.

CORONADO, CA: A Coronado park and roadway have reopened following a police investigation Tuesday morning of a suspicious-looking object that turned out to be harmless.
The 600 block of northbound Orange Avenue and the 1100 block of 7th Street were closed about 9:30 a.m. so a bomb squad could investigate the item, which was found near a bus stop, according to posts on Coronado Police Department's Facebook page.
At 11:17 a.m., the department posted that Orange Avenue was reopened.

At 12:03 p.m., police issued the following statement about the incident:
"At 9:20 a.m. this morning, our communications center received a call of a suspicious object found next to a bus stop bench and trash can in the 600 block of Orange Avenue.

"Coronado Police and Fire responded along with San Diego County Hazardous Materials, San Diego Fire Department and the Sheriff’s Bomb and Arson Unit.
"Out of an abundance of caution, Spreckels Park was evacuated and the 600 – 800 block of Orange Avenue was closed for a brief period of time while the specialized units investigated the object.
"Once it was determined that the area was safe, the roadway and park was reopened.
"The object turned out to be an empty 5-gallon plastic bucket with a children’s toy placed on top."
