Week of Rain, Cooler Temps In Store for San Diego Area: Forecast

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA: Cool, cloudy and rainy conditions are expected across San Diego County Thursday, through the upcoming weekend and into early next week as a series of storms hit the region.

Low pressure to the south is expected to bring thicker clouds and rainfall ranging from sprinkles to showers throughout the day Thursday. National Weather Service meteorologists said at least a chance of rain was expected in San Diego County in each of the next six days.

"The warm weather from early in the week will be firmly in the rear- view mirror as we move toward the weekend with cooler weather and periods of rain showers," according to the weather service.

The rain will continue Friday ahead of an even stronger storm expected to bring more rain and the possibility of thunderstorms on Saturday. A weaker storm system expected Monday will likely extend the cool weather and showers most of next week.

"At this time the greatest chance for significant rainfall and thunderstorms appears to be Saturday afternoon through Saturday night," according to the weather service. "However light shower activity is possible at any point through the weekend."

Rainfall amounts expected over the weekend range from half to an inch near the coast to one to two inches in the mountains, according to the NWS. Most of the precipitation is expected Saturday.

Snow may be possible on the highest mountain peaks, forecasters said.

Forecasters said the lack of sunshine would cause temperatures to plummet in some locales to around 20 degrees lower than on Wednesday. Gusty wind may also be possible.
