Winter Storm Continues in Coronado

Rain continues to fall in Coronado and elsewhere around San Diego County, creating potential hazards and street closures. As of 9:30 a.m., parts of Orange Avenue were closed, and traffic was condensed to a single lane near Sixth and Seventh streets by .

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch across the county, as the wet weather is expected to continue throughout the day and into tomorrow afternoon.

Rainfall rates near or greater than one inch per hour are possible at times, especially in the mountains, according to the National Weather Service.

The rain is causing predictable commuter headaches on local highways and freeways. According to the California Highway Patrol, there were 220 accidents reported between midnight and 10 p.m. Monday. In fair weather, the agency typically receives between 50 and 75 accident reports in a full 24-hour period.   

So far this morning, the CHP received 90 accident reports between midnight and 9 a.m.
