📰 News we're reading

• Costa Mesa Officers Rescue Dog Left in 100-Degree Vehicle (crimevoice.com) — Costa Mesa first responders recently broke a car window to rescue a dog trapped in a locked Tesla where interior temperatures topped 100 degrees. The animal was evaluated and found unharmed, and police are using the incident to warn local pet owners about the dangers of leaving animals in hot vehicles, even briefly.

• Costa Mesa pauses cannabis-funded homebuyers assistance plan, will let funds accrue (latimes.com subscription) — Costa Mesa officials have decided to pause their cannabis-tax-funded first-time homebuyer assistance plan and let the dedicated fund grow beyond its current $842,000. With median home prices around $1.4 million, councilmembers are weighing whether future dollars should support a pilot ownership program, bolster a housing trust for affordable projects, or be redirected, leaving key decisions to the next council.

• OC Auto Show exits Anaheim with new event, venue coming in spring 2027 (ocregister.com) — Costa Mesa's OC Fair & Event Center is being eyed as a possible new home for the long-running Orange County Auto Show, which is leaving the Anaheim Convention Center and targeting a spring 2027 relaunch. Organizers want a more immersive, test-drive-heavy "car culture" experience and say outdoor venues like the fairgrounds and its Costa Mesa Speedway could better showcase performance, off-road, and electric vehicles.
