CULVER CITY, CA — Culver City officials announced Tuesday the appointment of an interim police chief to replace retiring Chief Jason Sims.
Assistant Chief Troy Dunlap will take over the top position on an interim basis Monday.
Dunlap is a native of the city and graduated from Culver City High School. City Manager Ordis Jones said in a statement Dunlap has more than 20 years of law enforcement experience.
"His commitment to public safety, accountability, and community trust makes him well-positioned to lead the department during this transition. I am confident in his ability to provide steady leadership while continuing to serve our residents and support our offices," Jones said.
Dunlap joined the department in 2002 and has served in a variety of roles, including patrol, investigations, community services, and administration, according to the city. He serves as assistant chief of the Administration Bureau, providing executive oversight of departmental operations, personnel training, and professional standards.
Dunlap attended the University of San Diego, where he earned a master's degree in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership. He earned his undergraduate degree in Public Administration from Fresno State University.
City officials said his service has earned him several departmental honors, including the Distinguished Service Medal and David Shaby Career Achievement Award.
"I grew up in Culver City, and this community has always been home. It is an honor to have the opportunity to lead the Culver City Police Department in this role. I look forward to continuing to support our personnel, serve our community, and uphold the high standards of professionalism and public service that define this department," Dunlap said in a statement.
