Another 'Angry Birds Movie' In The Works

CULVER CITY, CA — The sequel to "The Angry Birds Movie," which raked in $350 million worldwide, will be released on Sept. 20, 2019, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the original Angry Birds game, Columbia Pictures announced Monday.

Sony Pictures will distribute "The Angry Birds Movie 2," which will be directed by Thurop Van Orman ("The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack," "Adventure Time") and John Rice ("King of the Hill," "Rick and Morty").

Van Orman recently worked at Disney and Sony Pictures Animation, and Rice was lead storyboard artist on the first "Angry Birds" film and directed the "Angry Birds Hatchlings" shorts.

The film will be produced by John Cohen ("Despicable Me," "The Angry Birds Movie"), and Peter Ackerman (FX's "The Americans," "Ice Age") is writing the screenplay.
