Barricaded Suspect Opens Fire, Triggering 405 Freeway SigAlert

CULVER CITY, CA – After several hours of negotiations, a barricaded suspect in Culver City finally surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. A weapon was recovered at the scene.

The possibly suicidal person fired multiple gunshots at Culver City police officers during a welfare check at the Ramada Inn Hotel early Monday morning, the Culver City Police Department said.

Culver City police officers went to check on the welfare of a possibly suicidal person around 5:40 a.m. at 3930 Sepulveda Boulevard in Culver City. When officers attempted to contact the person, they fired multiple gun shots through the door at the officers, CCPDsaid. No officers or civilians were hit by gunfire, and the officers did not return fire.

The Ramada Inn and some surrounding areas were evacuated, police said. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team was sent to assist Culver City police officers and has taken command of the incident, CCPD said.

A SigAlert was issued for the northbound 405 Freeway and Venice Boulevard on- and off-ramps due to incident, according to the California Highway Patrol.
