WHAT: It Can Wait Youth Poetry Open Mic

Los Angeles non-profit Get Lit, with the support of AT&T, will host a special themed Open Mic with Youth Speaks, featuring a showcase of poems about texting & driving, safety, distractions, and our addictions to technology and communication. High school teens will perform poetry, rap or stories to shed light on the dangers of distracted driving. The event is free and open to the public.

AT&T recently made a contribution of $30,000 to Youth Speaks, a San Francisco-based nonprofit that provides Spoken Word performance, education, and youth development programs across the country. AT&T’s contribution will be used to support four organizations (Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Massachusetts and Houston) in the Youth Speaks national network in a program that challenges young people between the ages of 13-24 to address the issue of texting while driving through creative expression. GetLit.org is the organization selected for the Los Angeles region.
