There were 633 reported cases of poisoning birds of prey of which half involved carbofuran, a pesticide whose approval for use was withdrawnin 2001 in UK.
The order criminalising possession of carbofuran and other similar substances which have no legal use could be tabled in the Commons within days.
On the international stage, the Government should exert diplomatic pressure in favour of development and enforcement of wildlife law to protect species.
