Bistro 39-Delicious Gem in San Diego
San Diego boasts many fine restaurants, including this one at the Hilton Garden Inn
It’s not often that I pay homage to a restaurant in a hotel. But I have to make an exception with Bistro 39 at the Hilton Garden Inn in San Diego.
I was already primed for a wonderful dining experience, having undergone a wonderful massage at the Serenity Spa, next door to the hotel. But being in this state of bliss did not alter my perception of this over-the-top dining experience.
Bistro 39 dates back to April 2009, fusing a variety of bistro classics with a California twist. Below are some of the items we sampled, which were above and beyond the call of duty.

Olive Oil and Balsamic
Fine bread is often food foreplay for me when it comes to dining out. Take a look at the pairing with this bread! Art on oil indeed! I’m not sure how they did this, but it set the tone for a fine meal.

Watermelon Salad
I wasn’t sure if all the flavors of the salad would work together, but guess what? I was wrong. Watermelon, olives, feta cheese, veggies and a light, yet sweet grapefruit dressing brought all of this together to create a mouth-watering beginning. The colors added a nice visual zing to the presentation.
Bacon Wrapped Scallops
I am a sucker for scallops, and this dish delivered. Plump and succulent, the scallops begged for attention. I couldn’t resist. Flanked with a medley of vegetables and rice, and flanked with a light cream sauce, my dining companions were envious of my selection.
Cheesecake
I do not go in for desserts very often, but this cheesecake could not be ignored. The lighting in the restaurant made the visuals even more appetizing. After all, 50 percent of any dining experience is how it looks on the plate.
Chocolate Cake
I could barely take a stab at this concoction; it was so dense and rich. But that didn’t prevent me from wrapping it up and taking it home. I am still parceling it out slowly every night.
