Census Reveals Culver City's Population Stable, but Racial Mix Is Changing

The African-American population has fallen 20 percent since 2000, while the Asian population increased by 23 percent.

Census data released Tuesday show that while the population of Culver City increased by only 67 people over the last 10 years, what has changed dramatically is the racial mix of the city.

The city's population in 2000 was 38,816 and rose to 38,883 in 2010, an increase of less than two-tenths of 1 percent. The African American population fell a whopping 20 percent to 3,694 in 2010 from 4,644 in 2000. The Asian population grew from 4,667 in 2000 to 5,742 in 2010, an increase of 23 percent.

The white population grew by almost 2 percent to 23,450 in 2010 from 22,996 in 2000. Whites still make up the largest racial group in the city—60 percent of the population in 2010, up from 59 percent in 2000.
