"Your Backyard Pharmacy: Recipes for Plants to Refresh, Soothe, Heal and More” with Master Gardener and landscape designer, Denise Friese

The history of medicine can be defined in part as a story of herbs in health. Over 700 medicinal herbs and how to use them were discovered in an ancient 100-page Eygyptian scroll dating back to 1550 BC. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 80 percent of the global population still rely on traditional plant-based medicine. Plus, 70 percent of new drugs introduced in the US are derived primarily from plants.

From coughs to colds, headaches to bruises - learn how you too can identify medicinal plants that grow in our neck of the Southland and other regions; how you can put them to use as salves, teas, syrups, tinctures -- create aromatherapy oils and more. Get the information you need to start or amp up your herbal first aid kit.
