Culver City Urges Supreme Court to Rule for Marriage Equality

The City Council voted in favor of a brief supporting the freedom to marry in cases before the Supreme Court.

Culver City has picked sides in the national debate over marriage equality with the City Council unanimously voting to file a friend of the court brief in support of gay marriage.

As first reported by the Culver City Observer, the council approved support for a brief filed by a coalition of ‘Mayors for the Freedom to Marry.’ The brief will lend the city’s support to marriage equality in cases before the United States Supreme Court.

According to the Observer, four council members voted in favor of the brief while Mehaul O’ Leary abstained.

The brief will explain ‘the harm to families and communities resulting from marriage discrimination,” the newspaper reported.
