With communal readings, music, and poetry performed by Sholem Community students and members, Sholem's non-religous Passover observance is imbued with inspirational values of social justice and freedom. This cultural celebration of Passover acknowledges its roots as a spring festival and pays tribute to the Exodus saga as a powerful symbol of liberty. The family program weaves tradition with a progressive, humanist interpretation of an ancient festival that teaches the value of freedom for all humanity. A chicken main dish and matzo ball soup (veggie and non-veggie) will be provided. The rest of the primarily vegetarian meal is potluck. See website to purchase tickets and for details of what to bring.
The Sholem Community is a progressive, multi-generational organization committed to expanding and perpetuating secular Jewish identity through education, cultural programs, and holiday and life cycle observances. Sholem welcomes and celebrates the wide diversity of Jews, including single and same-sex parents and intercultural families regardless of sexual orientation or cultural or faith backgrounds. We draw on spiritual models from our historic and cultural past to promote progressive and humanistic values, and to encourage and participate in actions for peace and social and economic justice.
