The Possibility Project Peformance

The Possibility Project will present its original musical performance beginning on October 28th, 29th and 30th at 7:30 p.m.  The show, which is written and performed by a diverse group of youth in foster care, tells the stories of their lives and their vision for change.

Since 2002, The Possibility Project (TPP) has been empowering youth in Los Angeles. This year marks the first year of a new program specifically for youth (16-21 years old) who are currently in or have been in foster care. This initiative is in partnership with Southern California Foster Family and Adoption Agency (SCFFAA), and is designed to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals and communities.

Utilizing its proven and innovative creative process, The Possibility Project aims to support foster care teens’ efforts to create safe, productive, and independent adult lives. Over the course of eight months, the youth meet weekly to: (1) write and perform an original musical based on their lives and their ideas for change, and (2) create community action projects based on issues that are important to them. This program is provided at no cost to the participants and selection is not based on talent.

Rehearsals include workshops in diversity, leadership, violence prevention, conflict resolution, and social change, along with training in the performing arts. Ideas and perspectives generated in these issue-oriented workshops provide the raw material for an original full-length musical written and performed by the youth themselves. These performances communicate the reality of the participants’ lives, as well as their vision for change. During the program, participants also create and complete community action projects that will put into action the change they envision for their communities.
