Man Charged With Assault For Allegedly Firing Shots At Police

CULVER CITY, CA – A man was charged Wednesday for allegedly firing gunshots through a hotel room door at Culver City police officers, holding them at bay during a lengthy standoff.

Stephen Chauncey Robb II, 39, is set to be arraigned Thursday on three felony counts of assault on a peace officer with a semi-automatic firearm and one felony count of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, along with a gun use allegation.

No one was injured in the standoff, which began about 5:40 a.m. Monday at a Ramada Inn at 3930 Sepulveda Blvd. and ended more than five hours later.

Officers were dispatched "to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject," according to a Culver City police statement.

"Once on scene, officers attempted to make contact with the subject. At that time, the subject fired multiple gunshots through the door at the officers. No officers or civilians were struck by gunfire and the officers did not return fire," according to the police station.

The hotel and some surrounding areas were evacuated, and about 7:30 a.m. Special Enforcement Bureau deputies and a Crisis Negotiation Team were sent to the scene.

Early that afternoon, the man surrendered to the crisis negotiators without further incident and a weapon was recovered, the sheriff's department reported.

Robb has remained jailed in lieu of $4 million bail since his arrest Monday, according to jail records.
